We’re all drawn to the word Zen. It sounds peaceful and … Zen. As a trained meditator, I’ve studied many different styles of relaxation and meditation, but sometimes the goal of doing everything right gets in the way. Although Zen Meditation is easy to do, it requires a silent focus. I think about how I’m sitting, if my eyes are open or closed, if my tongue is pressed against the top of my mouth, etc.
I’ve got new neighbors. Even though it’s illegal to burn trash, they do it every day. My house smells like toxic smoke and no matter how many times I’ve nicely asked them not to do it, they continue. It makes me so angry that sitting in a silent meditation is almost impossible to do, and that’s my point. Sometimes telling yourself to relax or “get over it” just won’t work.
As a matter of health, allowing stress to dominate your thoughts is detrimental. The problem is when you’re too stressed, meditation can be a job. Yeah, we all want to burn candles and be Zen, but I start to re-visit my anger, my knee starts to bounce, and I’m in an argument with myself to relax.
As some of you know, I’ve started to work more extensively in the relaxation and meditation genre and have begun to create music for the purpose of meditation and finding silence. This isn’t the typical new age music that is played during a massage. These are sounds recorded in specific intonations to create a vibration in the body that brings natural silence.
I have just completed a project that is around 9 minutes long and contains 108 gongs along with other specific bells and background vibrations. You can add 108 prayers, visualizations, mantras, or stay silent. It is not converted to an mp3 yet, but can be played on almost every smart phone as an m4a. I’ll probably convert it later today.
If you’d like to be one of the first few to preview my new DEEP RELAXATION project, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will send it to you today.
I am very proud to be creating sounds that will help with stress, pain relief, relaxation, and meditation. I look forward to input from those who sample this new meditation!
