Maintaining Balance And Harmony

Stress kills. Sometimes we obsess about problems or people that rub us the wrong way to the point of
letting them take over our body on a cellular level. Certain stress hormones that are produced when we “red zone” can affect our heart health to the point of becoming a threat to our long term health.

In our current political environment, it’s important to give our mind and body a time out every now and then. Meditation for 30-60 minutes a day is an ideal way to bring harmony to your mind and body. After many, many years of attempting to meditate, I have finally found that space for peace. The problem is, when you're all hyped up on stress, sitting quietly is all but impossible. I used to sit and bounce my knee while insisting that I was just not able to meditate. Now, once I decide that it’s time to relax, my body can’t wait to close my eyes, close the door, and chill out. This has taken many years to accomplish.

You don’t have to be a guru or a tree hugger to meditate. Let’s call it something other than meditation. How about just calling it a time-out? This is the mindless place that you go when you’re vacuuming, or mowing the lawn. It’s a place where your body relaxes and your mind goes blank. It’s the place where the old man goes when he takes his fishing boat out on the lake. This is a mindset that halts the production of stress hormones and gives your body a short rest for mental and physical healing.

What can you do to find complete relaxation? Yes, even with a toddler in the house, or a tyrant of a President that’s freaking you out, you can find some time. If it means going out to the car in the garage and putting a new age CD in the stereo, you MUST find this type of time-out to maintain a healthy balance in your mind and body.

Ahhhh. The feeling of sitting on a beach with a breeze in your face. I love that. You Tube has tons of free music with ocean sounds, or meditation chimes. You need to find something that resonates with you. If it’s not sitting in a quiet place, try taking a long walk. Whatever you choose, just make it a regular practice until your body looks forward to it and falls into a relaxation as soon as you begin.

Finding a healthy peace in your heart and soul can serve as the greatest anti-oxidant of all. Be well.

Congratulations People Of The World!

Yesterdays peaceful marches around the world were a refreshing reminder that we are all in this together. No matter what your feelings are about civil liberties, gender, color, environmental concerns, religion, sexual preference, or (I hope I haven’t left anybody out) anything else, it’s clear that we have each other’s back.

This week we go back to President Trumps cabinet confirmations, and I focus on the confirmation of Scott Pruitt as the director of the E.P.A. Mr. Pruitt is against regulations regarding the environment and is ready to eliminate many regulations that will affect our quality of life.

Our planet is threatened by many things. Some things that we can ban together to fix. For example, plastic in the ocean is not arguable. The plastic is manufactured for packaging out of non-biodegradable ingredients. The people of the world continue to purchase these packaged products which go into the landfills, on to the ground, and unfortunately into our waters. SHAME ON US. Making an effort to support products that are packaged in bio-degradable packaging, and recycling other packaging will keep this stuff out of the stomachs of the birds and fish that provide food to our population.

The thing that we can’t change is that fossil fuel exploration is a powerfully rich industry. They own many of the mineral rights on private land. If you watched the recent fight by the Standing Rock Indians, it took extreme measures to keep a potentially dirty drilling project away from their water. What a great thing that the people of this country are fighting back in numbers and making their voices heard.

PLEASE READ THE ARTICLE from New York Magazine about what we are up against if Scott Pruitt is confirmed. If he is, we will have a lot of work to do to protect our air, water, and food. This is my passion. We should not be feeding our families food that the ingredients and methods of processing are not fully disclosed. Further, the future of our environment is ours and we deserve a hand in how it is managed.

Please email your legislators with “NO TO SCOTT PRUITT” in the subject line. Please do it today.

Our Planet, Our Selves

If our planet is sick, so are we. It's possible to eat whatever we want, and exercise every day and still feel well. If you feel well, there's probably no reason to suspect that there's poison in your air, food, or water. But there is.

There are alarmists among us who make documentaries and write books about the dangers in our environment. They are alarmists because it seems like nobody is listening. They are hollaring at a fevered pitch because nobody has been listening for too long. It's not a secret that there are fewer fish in the ocean because of climate change AND over fishing, but the fisherman need to make a living, so they continue to fish. It's definitely no secret that fossil fuel production presents threats to our water, our soil, and consequently, our food.

There are, no doubt, hidden threats to us in the foods that we buy, and not only admitted junk foods made with preservatives, but even our FRESH vegetables are threatened by genetic engineering. These threats are not visible, and because the major food growers have all the money, the government discusses regulations where we do not have to be informed of these "potential" threats.

Donald Trumps new appointment of the director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Scott Pruitt, CLICK HERE TO READ ARTICLE is a leading activist against the EPA. He is against many of the EPA regulations and doubts that fracking is affecting America's drinking water. OK, Mr. Pruitt. Let's talk about that. I lived in Silt, Colorado when natural gas began bubbling up in a local creek. Because our house was within a two mile radius of the seep, not only did the gas drilling company provide us with bottled water for over a year, but they drilled a deep sensor pipe outside of our house to be sure that gas did not seep into our crawl space. All that expense while denial of any responsibility for the seep. Calling it "naturally occuring."

After the initial shock of what was happening in our neighborhood, a young woman (who developed adrenal cancer) with a new baby was compensated an undisclosed amount (enough where this local rancher showed an obvious elevation in class of his home and vehicles, etc.). All the while, the gas drilling company denied responsibility.

The problem here is that we are relying on the EPA to investigate and protect the environment and our families. This has not been happening so far, and I expect that it is to become worse.

We have go to be more militant about what's in our food, air, and water. What the global warming deniers don't get is that once our water is either gone or contaminated, there can be no life on this planet.

If you have not been active about your planet up until now, I encourage you to get involved. Personally, I don't intend to allow our Government to feed me full of lies and tainted food. I intend to grow my own food or buy from local growers. I intend to bring my own bags to the store, buy only organic food and products, not support companies that are not animal or worker friendly, write letters to my government officials, and post exposing information about companies that deliberately use poison for profit.

I have been an environmentalist for over 50 years, but now I intend to share enough information to make you one too.😀
